violinist.io takes the protection of your personal data seriously. We are committed to protect personal Data against loss, abuse, unauthorised access and illegal publication, tampering and deletion.

This document is an overview over the ways we guarantee this protection and what data is collected for which reason.

Overview

When you use violinist.io, certain data is sent to violinist.io. This includes your username, email address or other information related to your source code. Using violinist.io also generates other kinds of data, for example log data.

Information We Collect

If you're just browsing the website, we collect the same basic information most websites collect. We use common internet technologies, such as cookies and web server logs. This is stuff we collect from everybody, whether they have an account or not.

The information we collect about all visitors to our website includes the visitor’s browser type, language preference, referring site, additional websites requested, and the date and time of each visitor request. We also collect potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.

Why do we collect this?

We collect this information to better understand how our website visitors use our website, and to monitor and protect the security of the website.

Information From Users With Accounts

If you create an account, we require some basic information at the time of account creation. We require your email address, and a user name. These are fetched from the login provider you use to identify yourself, for example Github.

User Personal Information does not include aggregated, non-personally identifying information. We may use aggregated, non-personally identifying information to operate, improve, and optimize our website and service.

If you add projects (repositories) to violinist.io, we will perform a full checkout if your your source code repository when violinist.io tries to update your projects. This source code is not stored or cached, and the containers where the source code is checked out are destroyed and are never re-used.

Why do we collect this?

We need your User Personal Information to create your account, and to provide the services you request.
We use your User Personal Information, specifically your user name, to identify you on Violinist.
We will use your email address to communicate with you, if you've said that's okay, and only for the reasons you’ve said that’s okay.
We limit our use of your User Personal Information to the purposes listed in this Privacy Statement. If we need to use your User Personal Information for other purposes, we will ask your permission first. You can always see what information we have, how we're using it, and what permissions you have given us in your user profile.

Log Data

violinist.io collects certain request and transaction data in log files. This data is used for quality assurance, bug fixing, statistics and the securing of the system. violinist.io can publish statistics publicly under the provision that no personal data is associated with them. violinist.io collects ip addresses, referrers, browser technology information and access times for the outlined reasons.

Unauthorised Access

violinist.io implements multiple mechanisms to avoid unauthorised access to account data or any other data.

violinist.io accounts are secured with GitHubs / Gitlab's oAuth service (depending on your chosen login provider). You are expected to choose a secure password for your GitHub / Gitlab account and store it safely, to avoid unauthorised access to your account. violinist.io never sees your password and only maintains an access token to do its job.

Payment

violinist.io uses one of the leading payment providers: Stripe. Stripe’s privacy policy can be found here: https://stripe.com/no/privacy.

To execute a payment, violinist.io redirects your browser to Stripe’s secure payment server. Your credit card and invoice data are entered there. Your credit card data is not sent to the violinist.io servers at any time.

Exchange of Personal Information

violinist.io uses your personal data in accordance with this privacy policy.

We will share your personal information with third parties only under one of the following conditions: (i) violinist.io has your permission; (ii) there is a legal obligation to provide information; (iii) to secure violinist.io or data of other users; (iv) to protect intellectual property; or (v) to execute the violinist.io Terms of Service.

Access to your personal data

You control access to Personal Data maintained or stored by you via Violinist.io's web-based interface for account management. You may update your information at any time. You may cancel your account at any time and may request that your personal information be deleted from Violinist.io's databases, with the exception of: network access logs, which may be stored for any duration of time at Violinist.io's discretion, cases where financially fraudulent or otherwise illegal activity is deemed to have occurred (as determined by Violinist.io management or law enforcement officials), in which case personal information may be retained indefinitely for purposes of ongoing investigation and prevention of fraud recurrence, or cases where a violation of the Customer Agreement and applicable Service Level Agreement has resulted in cancellation of your account (as defined by revocation of your permission to utilize Violinist.io's services), in which case personal information may be retained indefinitely for purposes of prevention of further use of Violinist.io's services in the future by the offending individual.

Upon request, Violinist.io will grant you reasonable access to Personal Data maintained by Violinist.io about you. In addition, we will take reasonable steps to correct, amend or delete information that is demonstrated by you to be inaccurate, incomplete or processed in violation of applicable law. Unless required by law, Violinist.io will not permit you to access the Personal Data of any Data Subject other than yourself.
